There
is no need to ask Bayol what time
it is, for this artist born under
the Provencal sun, it's always time
to paint!
His
head is continually lost in clouds
of natural pigments, chalk dust,
inks, he is forever bringing to
life on canvas images of his inspiration.
it is no wonder Seyssaud, Gleizes
and Chabaud no less, recognised
him as one of their own, when he
was no older than fifteen.
Such
high praise would most certainly
have brought out vanity in most,
but Joseph Bayol, of a rare humility,
was not swayed by such appraisal
and has no other vocation than that
of creating a new adventure out
of every canvas he brings to life
using both body and soul.
Joseph
Bayol is forever in search of landscapes,
silhouettes and faces to carry him
away to far off places; and for
all the gold in the world, he would
not give up a rendez vous with his
pastels in the Petite Crau of his
childhood, where he can lose himself
in the incredible beauty of the
Alpilles landscapes, the currents
of the Ventoux mountains, the Cevennes,
and weather permitting, sketch the
deep blue sea in the distance.
Joseph
Bayol's work is both precision and
as free as a poem and is a true
mix of green oak, juniper, vines
and lavender.
This artist, so reserved
in person, is inexhaustible on canvas.
His
brushes are loquacious, and his
work never-ending when he captures
each and every moment and season
on canvas.
Through
his work, Joseph Bayol portrays
a discerning inspiration, a mix
of incredibly expressive colours
and compositions, bringing to life
the blandest familiar object. His
work of art will brighten the dullest
of days.
